How many Workday leave types can I map to each Tilt leave type?
One Tilt leave type, one Workday leave type — here's the mapping rule and what it means for your setup.
Tilt supports mapping exactly one Workday leave type to each Tilt leave type — you can't split a single Tilt leave type across multiple, more granular Workday leave types.
Who this applies to / Prerequisites
- HR admins deciding whether to enable the Workday leave data push.
- Applies to any business currently using more granular Workday leave types (for example, separate FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act) vs. non-FMLA, disability vs. bonding, or paid vs. unpaid leave types).
Steps
- Review your current Workday leave types and compare them to Tilt's leave types: Parental, Medical, Caregiving, Military, and Other.
- Decide whether your business can map one Workday leave type to each Tilt leave type.
- If yes, either adjust your existing Workday leave types or create new ones to match this 1-to-1 structure.
- If your business needs more granular mapping than this supports, don't enable the leave data push — wait until Tilt supports more complex mappings.
- When creating or adjusting leave types, loosen or remove eligibility criteria in Workday, since Tilt — not Workday — manages leave eligibility and payment decisions once the integration is enabled.
- Take leave payments directly from Tilt's payroll reports rather than calculating them in Workday.
What if it doesn't work
- If you're not sure whether your current setup fits, list out your Workday leave types side by side with Tilt's five leave types before deciding.
- If your business tracks FMLA vs. non-FMLA (or similar splits) and can't consolidate them, don't enable the data push portion of the integration yet.
Limits and exceptions
- You can map only one Workday leave type per Tilt leave type — you can't map multiple Workday leave types to a single Tilt leave type.
- You can map the same Workday leave type to multiple Tilt leave types (for example, Workday Leave Type A can back both Parental Leave and Medical Leave in Tilt).
- You can't use the leave data push if your business requires distinctions Tilt doesn't support yet, such as FMLA vs. non-FMLA, disability vs. bonding for birthing parents, or paid vs. unpaid time.
- Enabling the data push isn't required — you can use the 1-way integration only if this mapping structure doesn't fit your business.
