What fields are on the Payroll Report in Tilt?
Every column explained — from standard wages to retroactive adjustments, here's how to read the Payroll Report.
Quick answer
The Payroll Report provides HR and Payroll teams the info they need to understand how an employee's pay is distributed across sources and what's owed during their leave of absence. There are two types of information on the report:
- Standard Payroll Data — general information about payments for the leave
- Pay Adjustment Data — information about changes that occurred to an employee's pay calculation from a previously paid-out pay period (a recalculation)
Who this applies to / Prerequisites
- You are an HR or Payroll user at a Tilt customer.
- You want to understand what each column on the Payroll Report means.
- You've previewed or exported the Payroll Report. See How do I download a payroll report from Tilt?
Note about conditional columns: Any pay category, benefit, or leave type column only appears when at least one employee in the pay period has data in that category. If nobody has PTO pay during the period, the Company PTO Pay columns won't appear. This applies to all pay, benefit, and Company Paid Leave columns.

Important note on Added Pay Periods: Tilt only calculates pay for periods within an employee's specified leave time. If a leave change affects a pay period Tilt didn't originally include, the affected periods appear in Added Pay Periods. Tilt doesn't have historical pay data for those periods, so Payroll teams should manually review what the employee was paid during those periods and reconcile the adjustment.
What if it doesn't work
- If a column you expected to see isn't in the report, no employees had data in that category during the pay period.
- If adjustment amounts look unfamiliar, check the Reason for Adjustment column for context.
- If Added Pay Periods shows values, review the employee's historical pay records for those periods manually.
Limits and exceptions
- Column availability depends on whether any employee had data in that category during the pay period.
- All amounts are pre-tax. Actual take-home pay may differ based on taxes and deductions.
- State benefit columns are named by the specific state law, so the exact column depends on the states your employees are on leave in.
- Tilt only calculates pay for periods within an employee's specified leave time.
