What happens to past pay periods when I connect Tilt and Rippling?
Past pay stays past — here's what to check before connecting, and why old pay periods won't push over.
Connecting Tilt and Rippling doesn't change any pay you've already processed. Tilt marks all past pay periods as settled during setup, so nothing from before the connection date pushes back to Rippling.
Who this applies to / Prerequisites
- Anyone setting up the Tilt–Rippling integration for the first time.
- Applies if you already have leave or pay history in Tilt from before you connect to Rippling.
- Doesn't apply if you have no historical leave or pay data in Tilt yet.
Steps
- Review pay for employees who were on leave in past pay periods. Confirm you paid them the amount Tilt recommended.
- Correct any underpayments or overpayments directly in Rippling. Tilt won't push corrections for pay periods that happened before you connect.
- Check that every Tilt user account uses a work email address, not a personal one. Tilt matches employees between Tilt and Rippling by work email.
- Update any personal email addresses to work email addresses in Tilt before you connect.
- Once pay accuracy and user emails are confirmed, install the Tilt app in Rippling. See "How do I connect Tilt to Rippling?"
What if it doesn't work
- You find a past pay period where an on-leave employee wasn't paid Tilt's recommended amount: correct it directly in Rippling. Tilt won't retroactively adjust or push that correction after you connect.
- An employee has two Tilt accounts (one with a personal email, one with a work email): contact Tilt Support to identify and resolve the duplicate before you connect.
- You already connected and then found a past-period pay error: you still have to fix it directly in Rippling. The integration only affects pay periods going forward from the connection date.
Limits and exceptions
- Tilt can't push pay adjustments to Rippling for any pay period before you connected — that data is marked settled at installation.
- Tilt adjusts against what Tilt calculated should have been paid, not against what Rippling shows was actually paid. If those two numbers already didn't match before you connected, the integration won't correct that gap automatically.
- Tilt identifies users by work email address. It can't match an employee's Tilt and Rippling records if the email addresses don't match or if a personal email is on file.
- This doesn't cover the installation steps themselves — see "How do I connect Tilt to Rippling?"
