What other DC leave laws does Tilt support?
Rounding out DC's leave landscape beyond DC FMLA and DC PFL
Quick answer
Beyond DC FMLA and DC PFL, Tilt supports several less-common DC leave laws, including Domestic Violence Leave, Jury Duty Leave, Parental Leave (DC Parental Leave Act), and Voting Leave. These are customized on a case-by-case basis since the type and amount of support needed can vary.
Who this applies to / Prerequisites
- Employers and employees in DC covered by one of the laws listed below.
Key facts
- Domestic Violence Leave (DC Human Rights Act): Covered employers must consider unpaid leave as a reasonable accommodation if the employee, or their family member, is a victim of domestic violence, a sexual offense, or stalking.
- Jury Duty Leave: Covered employers must provide leave for eligible employees required to serve on a jury; depending on employer size, the first 5 days may need to be paid.
- Parental Leave (DC Parental Leave Act): Covered employers must provide eligible employees 24 hours of unpaid leave in a 12-month period to attend or participate in their child's school-related events.
- Voting Leave (DC Leave to Vote Amendment Act of 2020): Covered employers must provide eligible employees 2 hours of paid leave to vote in any election where they're eligible.
What if it doesn't work
- I need more detail on one of these laws: Reach out to your Tilt contact for more information.
- I'd prefer to manage one of these leaves in-house: Some employers choose to handle these internally, especially for sensitive situations — contact your Tilt contact to discuss.
- If none of these apply, contact your Leave Success Manager (employees) or Customer Success Manager (HR teams).
Limits and exceptions
- These laws generally apply to private employers; public/state employers may face additional or different requirements.
- Jury Duty Leave may be partially paid (first 5 days, depending on employer size), and Voting Leave is paid; Domestic Violence Leave and the Parental Leave Act leave are unpaid.
