What other Massachusetts leave laws does Tilt support?
Additional coverage for Massachusetts's less common leave situations
Quick answer
Beyond MPLA and MA PFML, Tilt supports several less-common Massachusetts leave laws, including Civic Volunteer Leave, Crime Victim/Witness Leave, Domestic Violence Leave, Jury Duty, Military Leave, Small Necessities Leave, and Voting Leave. These are customized on a case-by-case basis since the type and amount of support needed can vary.
Who this applies to / Prerequisites
- Employers and employees in Massachusetts covered by one of the laws listed below.
Key facts
- Civic Volunteer Leave: Covered employers must provide unpaid leave for eligible employees responding to an emergency as a volunteer member of a fire or ambulance department.
- Crime Victim/Witness Leave: Covered employers must provide unpaid leave for eligible employees required to attend court as a crime victim, or subpoenaed to testify as a witness in a criminal action.
- Domestic Violence Leave: Covered employers must provide 15 days of unpaid leave in a 12-month period for eligible employees, or their family members, who are victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault, and/or kidnapping.
- Jury Duty: Covered employers must provide 3 days of paid leave for eligible employees on jury duty; additional days are unpaid.
- Military Leave: Covered employers must provide the same rights and privileges afforded under USERRA. Military veterans must also be granted unpaid leave to participate in certain activities for Memorial Day or to observe Veterans Day.
- Small Necessities Leave: Covered employers must provide 24 hours of unpaid leave in a 12-month period for eligible employees to accompany their children to routine medical/dental appointments.
- Voting Leave: Covered employers must provide unpaid leave for eligible employees to vote at an election.
What if it doesn't work
- I need more detail on one of these laws: Reach out to your Tilt contact for more information.
- I'd prefer to manage one of these leaves in-house: Some employers choose to handle these internally, especially for sensitive situations — contact your Tilt contact to discuss.
- If none of these apply, contact your Leave Success Manager (employees) or Customer Success Manager (HR teams).
Limits and exceptions
- These laws generally apply to private employers; public/state employers may face additional or different requirements.
- Jury Duty includes 3 paid days; all other laws listed provide unpaid leave.
